Pre-germinating Seeds
Pre-germinating seeds means sprouting them before you sow them. All you need is:
- water
- paper towels
- rubber bands
- plastic bags
- labels
- Soak the seeds in room-temperature water overnight.
- Spread 2 layers of dampened paper towels on a flat surface.
- Place your seeds about 1 inch (2.54 cm) apart and carefully roll up the paper towel.
- Use a rubber band to keep each towel in the shape of a tube and label it well.
- Place the rolls in a plastic bag and label it as well.
- Loosely close the bag because the seeds will need some air to germinate.
- Most seed packets list how long germination takes, but you can sneak a peek at them each day.
- Check to see if the rolls are drying out and re-wet the paper towels if they need it.
- When little roots just start to show, your sprouts are ready for planting in mini-rows using the Goop method.
Some seeds can take up to a week to germinate, so be patient.
