Grass Clippings
- Grass clippings make excellent mulch, and they are available almost every week right after the lawn is mowed!
- However, grass seeds in your garden might require you to weed a bit more frequently.
- Using grass clippings without any seed heads can help you avoid this issue.
- If your lawn was recently fertilized, wait until the first mowing after a good rainfall or watering before using the clippings in the garden to avoid burning the plant roots.
- Always spread the clippings evenly and not more than 1" (2.5 cm) deep, or they could suffocate your plants trying to grow through them.
- Applying the clippings too thickly may cause them to rot and turn into a smelly, slimy mess.
